Ethel Edwards was six days old when the federal census taker visited with her father, Harry Edwards. When the enumerator learned that the babe had no middle name, he urged Harry to give her an additional name. As it was well known that Teddy Roosevelt had a young daughter named Ethel and for that matter Mr. Roosevelt would likely be the next President of the U.S., Harry gave his daughter her distinctive middle name.
