Lucy Wheeler Buck LeGrand, daughter of Carrie Wheeler Buck and Gordon M. Buck, was born on September 30, 1908 and died just short of her 100th birthday on July 7, 2008, at her home in University Village, Charlottesville, VA.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Q. LeGrand of Chapel Hill, NC. She was the granddaughter of General "Fighting Joe" Wheeler, Lt General CSA, Major General USA. Her dear friend Richard Pietsch, of Crozet, also predeceased her.

Mrs. LeGrand was a graduate of Vassar College and a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Colonial Dames, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was an active member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Greenwood, VA.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Gordon B. LeGrand and John Le Grand; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Mary Preston, Carolyn Deane, Claudine Millican and Flossie Hawkins for their tender loving care during their mother's illness.

After a memorial service at University Village, a funeral service was held at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Friday, July 11, 2008 with the Rev. Sarah Kinney Gaventa officiating. There was a committal service at Oakdale Cemetery, in Wilmington, NC on Saturday, July 12, 2008 with the Rev. Ron Abrams presiding.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Emmanuel Church, 7599 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Greenwood, VA 22943 or to the Friends of the Joe Wheeler Home, 6644 County Road 3377, Courtland, Alabama 35618.
