MARION - Mrs. Emma Liza Ammons Baxley, 95, widow of Lee Roy Baxley, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Marion Nursing Center.
Mrs. Baxley was born Oct. 7, 1908, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Victor and Henrietta Lane Ammons. Mrs. Baxley was a homemaker and a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Baxley is survived by a daughter, Nell Wall and her husband Robert M. of Chesapeake, Va.; two sons, Jack Baxley and his wife Sara of Floral City, Fla., and Roy Lee Baxley and his wife Landis of Marion; a daughter-in-law, June White Godbold and her husband Kenneth of Marion; a sister, Clara Dykes of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Albert Ammons of Gibsonville, N.C.; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Baxley was predeceased by a son, Richard Baxley; a granddaughter, Catherine Marianne Wall; four brothers, J. T. Ammons, Henry Ammons, B. J. Ammons and Elmer Ammons; and three sisters, Marie Rich, Leona Gerringer and Leila Smith.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Chapel of Smith-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Darrell Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
