SFC ARTHUR FORBES U.S. Army, Retired

Arthur "Art" Forbes, 80, passed away peacefully, June 19, 2009, at Odyssey Hospice Harbor House. He was born Dec. 19, 1928, in Sommerville, Mass., and resided in Las Vegas for over 15 years.

Art served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. After several civilian years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Oak Leaf Cluster. After 26 years of total service, he retired and worked as a millwright for the State of Virginia.

Art is survived by his loving wife, Arvilla; daughter, Sharon Krause of Halifax, Va.; son, Shawn Forbes of Midlothian, Va.; one stepdaughter; six stepsons; 16 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Joanmarie Marks of Texas and Dolores of Massachusetts; brothers, John Luongo Jr. of Mexico and Jimmy of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra; son, Mark; and brother, Leo.

Art has been a very active member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Catholic War Veterans.

Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Sunday, June 28, with Rosary at 6 p.m., both at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 29, at St. Joseph, Husband of Mary, Catholic Church, 7260 W. Sahara Ave.

Burial will follow at 1:20 p.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association Desert Southwest Chapter, or The Lou Ruvo Brain Institute, Keep Memory Alive.
