Patriot of the American Revolution and county lieutentant for Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania. Enlisted on 18 July 1763 as ensign. In 1781, promoted to colonel and commanded 100 men through the Ohio Valley.

While floating down the Ohio River, they stopped near present day Aurora Indiana to seek food and were surprised by Mohawk Indians commanded by George Girty,the brother of Simon Girty, and Chief Joseph Brant . Lochry lost his life after the battle when a Shawnee Indian tomahawked him. Known as "Lochry's Defeat", Lochry's Creek was named in his memory.
