Mrs. Beam was born in Lincoln County on October 30, 1924 a daughter of the late John O. Smith, Sr. and Hettie Tallent Smith.
Mrs. Beam was a sales associate at Harrleson's Department Store in Cherryville and was a homemaker; she was also a very active member of Bess Chapel United Methodist Church where she was in the adult choir, United Methodist Women and also served in various other capacities at the church. She was in the Club Carolina Ladies Auxiliary and Home Extension.
Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law; Rebecca Beam Cline and Ray of Gastonia and Paulette Beam Heavner Howell and Gerald of Cherryville; five grandchildren; Eric Devine, Julie Devine Denton, Susan Cline Hanks, Wes Heavner and Carla Smith Burgess and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Beam was preceded in death by her husband Paul M. Beam, a son Larry E. Smith, a brother John O. Smith, Jr. and a sister Margaret L. Smith.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 3:00PM at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday from 1:45 until 2:45PM and other times at the home of Paulette Heavner Howell, 1775 Bess Chapel Ch. Rd. Cherryville.
