Helger Peterson Geil was born on November 10, 1906 in Walnut Township, Palo Alto County, Iowa, the son of Bartel Peterson and Lean nee Hansen Geil. He was baptized on April (?) in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of South Walnut and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Graettinger in 1920. He spent his boyhood a Graettinger where he graduated from high school in 1926. He married Zelma Hoyt in Spencer on April 20, 1935.
Holger pursued a life-long career as a creamery manager and butter maker working in several locations in Iowa. He came to Greene in 1952 where he earned the distinguished rating of Master Craftsman from the State Brand Creameries, Inc. He retired from the creamery in 1967.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene.
Although in ill health, he enjoyed his retirement by spending time visiting members of his family. He enjoyed a close relationship with the employees at Klassi motors and particularly enjoyed his close friendship with many here in Greene.
He died on September 11, at the home of a friend, Fred Feldman. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1958; his parents, 2 brothers, Lawrence and Hs who died in childhood and by one grandson Eric.
He is survivors include his son, William of Knoxville; 2 grandsons, Christopher and Todd; 2 Brothers, Peter of Estherville and Marcus of Graettinger and 3 sisters, Anna Christensen of Ringsted, Mrs. Metle (Clara) Hanson of Ruthven and Mrs. Neils (Freda) Casperson of Watertown, Wisconsin and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services ere held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Greene on September 14 with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Pastor Donald Wahlgren officiating. Rend's Funeral Home in charge o arrangements.
