Bill Mason Adkins, 79, of Galax, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Twin County Regional Hospital.

He was born in Carroll County on Dec. 19, 1929 to James Payton and Cora Manus Adkins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lee Winesett Adkins.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Patty Adkins and Greg and Terri Adkins, all of Galax; sisters and brother-in-law, Jessie Wilson of Tampa, Fla., and Margaret Dale and Pete Moore of Lexington, Ken.; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Mattie Adkins of Martinsville; three grandsons; a sister-in-law, Mavis Adkins of Galax; several nieces and nephews; and his lifetime friend, Joe Jarrell of Mount Airy, N.C.

A graveside service will be held today, Friday, at 11 a.m., in Felts Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Ron Hill officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
