Daniel Bernoulli studied medicine and mathematics in his hometown Basel and Heidelberg and Strasbourg. After he had made a name for himself with various works he went to the St. Petersburg academy of science in 1725 were he spent a total of eight fruitful years. During this period he wrote important texts on the theory of mechanics, including a first version of his famous treatise on hydrodynamics. In 1733 he became professor in Basel. His famous main work "Hydrodynamica" (Basel 1738) was a milestone in the theory of the flowing bahavior of liquids and gases. The BERNOULLI PRINCIPLE has remained the general principle of hydrodynamics and aerodynamics and forms the basis of modern aviation. Daniel Bernoulli died in his home
town Basel.

Note: Bernoulli was born January 29, 1700 according to the Julian Calendar, or Old Style. His date of birth fell on February 8th with the conversion to the Gregorian Calendar, or New Style.
