Mr. Register was born June 21, 1919, in Clinch County, to the late Benjamin Stalvey Register and Mary Emma Hughes Register. He was employed by Winn Dixie as a truck driver, a member of Northside Assembly of God, of Winterhaven, Fla., and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by seven sisters, Dessie Hughes, Catherine Harris, Lillie Mae McDaniel, Evelyn Weakes, Bennie Mainor, Vera Collins, and Mary Stalvey; and five brothers, Woodrow Register, Jeptha Register, Earl Register, W.P. Register, and J.C. Register.
Survivors are his wife, Mildred June Swilley Register; three daughters, Joyce Faye Cole of Palm Coast, Fla., Linda Marie of Apollo Beach, Fla.; Shelia Ann Russell of Lake City, Fla.; two sons, Terry Winston Register of Palm Coast, Fla., Lewis William "Bill" Register Jr. of St. Marys, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.
Services for Mr. Register were held Monday, June 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Roundtree Funeral Home Chapel.
Internment was in the North Cemetery.
