She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles H. Millsaps, two sons Willie Edward Millsaps and Charles Junior Millsaps and one daughter Melba Faye Millsaps.
She is survived by three sons and their wives; Tommie and Linda Millsaps of Moore, OK; Willie and Nancy Millsaps of Pleasant Plains, AR; Jerry and Ruth Ann Millsaps of Wallisville, TX; and a daughter and her husband Frances and Boyed Sanders of Conway, AR. She is also survived by a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.
Bertie was a homemaker who enjoyed providing her family a welcoming home and good food. Her love for gardening and sharing her large garden was one of the things she greatly missed when age and strength made the tasks too great. Bertie was employed at the Mt Vernon School cafeteria after her children left the home and served as a volunteer and supporter for the Conway Human Development Center for several years. Bertie, a long-time member of Mt Vernon Baptist Church, enjoyed attending services and teaching a Sunday School class for many years. It was not unusual to walk in her home and hear her signing or whistling a hymn as she busied herself with her chores. She cherished the many friends she had in church and in her community.
The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12, at Mt Vernon Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Romance Cemetery. Family visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Roller McNutt Funeral home in Conway.
