In September 1876 he married Winnie Mae Patrick, b.1856, Texas d. (unknown) in Hopkins County, Texas. In about 1881, he married Sarah "Sallie" Weems, b.1858, Alabama d. (unknown). He was the father of ten children, seven of whom survived infancy.

He died in Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas at the age of seventy-seven on February 7, 1930 - seven years and seven days after the death of his daughter, Josephine. His remains were interred in the Sweetwater Cemetery, Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas.
