Hallie was the ninth of twelve children. Her mother died when she was 4 and her dad died when she was 10. They came to Texas from Kentucky held together by a commitment to family. Her older sister, Sallie, took the lead as mother and her older brother Russell lead as father. He did not marry until all the young children were married. She and her sister Tamar died in the same year, 1997. They are now all gone. She was a devoted mother and loving grandmother to her 12 grandchildren. She adored M. Roy and laughed about how they loved each other so much they didn't realize how poor they were.
