place this Mornlng at 9 O'clock at St. James.

The Messenger on yesterday briefly chronicled the death of Mrs. Mildred Holmes Brown, who passed away at the family residence, 308 North Third street, yesterday morning at 1:05 o'clock. Mrs. Brown had been an invalid for the past ten years and for some weeks her decline prepared those near to her to expect the sad end. Her death sorely bereaves the loved ones she left behind and her numerous relatives, friends and acquaintances are touched with sorrow that she has passed from earth. The most sincere sympathy Is felt for those who mourn the death of a fond and affectionate mother.
Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Mr. Gabriel Holmes, in former days a wealthy rice planter on the Cape Fear and whose ancestors were among the early colonial settlers. Maury, in command of the gulf fortifications. He was commissioned a brigadier general by President Davis but before the commission reached Mm hostilities had terminated.
Mrs. Brown was a woman of remarkable strength of character and was a lady of rare accomplishments and Christian graces. For a life time she was a communicant of St. James Episcopal church and was a zelous member of the Woman's Auxiliary, having been devoted to church work during her active life. Her only brother is Mr. William H. Holmes, of Aberdeen, Miss., who visited Wilmington several months ago. She Is survived by four children Mr. William IL Brown, Mr. John H. Brown, Miss Elizabeth H. Brown, and Miss Minnie B. Brown, all of this city. She has quite a number of relatives here and elsewhere in the state. She was a sister-in-law of the late Dr. John H.
