J. Maurice (Maury) Slagle, age 94, of Republic died on June 5, 2005, at the Ferry County Memorial Hospital in Republic. He was born on November 7, 1910, in Republic to parents Jesse W. and Elizabeth M. Slagle. Maury graduated from Republic High School and received degrees in chemistry from Whitman College in 1935, and a pharmacy degree from Washington State College in 1940. He then joined his father in practice at the Republic Drug Store. Maury was a 64 year member of the Republic Kiwanis Club; a 60 year licensed Pharmacist, a 43 year member of the Republic Volunteer Fire Department, a member of numerous pharmacy and professional organizations, as well as a lifetime member of the Ferry County Historical Society. On September 28, 1943, he married Elizabeth O'Brodovich and they remained married for 54 wonderful years until her death in 1997.

He is survived by sons and daughters, Tom Slagle and his wife Gloria of Two Rivers, Alaska, Margaret Turner and her husband Dave of Redmond, WA, Rob Slagle and his wife Patty of Republic, and Mary Bliss and her husband Galen of Bellingham, WA; two brothers, Dick Slagle of Republic and Dave Slagle of Waterville; and seven grandchildren. Maury was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor

Graveside Services will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at the Republic Cemetery with Father George Morbeck, officiating. Memorials may be made to the Ferry County Memorial Hospital or the Republic Kiwanis Club.
