Robert A. Stalker, a founder and former fire chief of the Windsor Fire Department, died Oct. 9 from complications from cancer. He was 66. Stalker, a native of Flint, MI, lived in Sonoma County for 57 years. "He was one of the original seven who started the Windsor Fire Department," said his son, Bruce Stalker of Fortuna. The department was all-volunteer when it was founded in 1965. Stalker served briefly as fire chief later that year, said Ron Collier, the town's current fire chief. Stalker was named the department's fireman of the year in 1970. Bruce Stalker said his father received the award for stopping and rescuing a man whose clothing had caught on fire after a traffic accident. Stalker had worked since 1988 for the Rohnert Park City Schools as a maintenance technician. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. Along with his son, he is survived by a daughter, Lori Ann Pemperton of Deltona, FL; a brother, Vernon Stalker of Paradise; sisters, June Chesterman of Placerville and Irene Pastorella of Texas; and three grandchildren. Memorial services were held at Windsor Community Methodist Church with the Rev. Gerry Smith officiating. Burial was in Shiloh District Cemetery.
