Ruth Adele Gordon Fisk, 89, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at the Iowa Senior Life Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ruth was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on April 14, 1919. She graduated from the Milwaukee State Teachers College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1937, and went on to obtain a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of Iowa. Ruth graduated with honors, and after World War II she became Iowa's first Fulbright Exchange teacher. Ruth taught for a memorable year in Sheffield, England and traveled extensively in Europe. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta honorary education society. Even in recent years Ruth was fondly remembered by her former first grade pupils.

Ruth married attorney Robert Clarke Fisk in 1957 and lived most of her married life in Omaha, Nebraska. Ruth and Bob were life-long Iowa Hawkeye fans.

Ruth is survived by her sister Rose Gordon Hayne of Des Moines, sisters Dorothy Gordon and Helen Gordon (Earnest) Singletary of Dallas, Texas, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Robert C. Fisk, her parents Luther B. and Helen Gordon, her sister Jeanne Christiansen Marshall and her brother Edward Gordon.
