Allen A. Barton, 70, of Hendersonville made the transition from Earth to Heaven on April 2, 2007, at Elizabeth House, surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis P. and Minnie Faye McGaha Barton;brothers, Ralph, Claude and Carl Barton; a sister, Julia B. Hoxit, and a sister-in-law, Mary Evelyn B. Ellis, who died earlier this year.
He is survived by his twin, Ellen B. Stepp; sisters, Emily B. McMurray and Mary E. Garrett, of Hendersonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter c. and Anna Lee Barton, of Marietta, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Helen H. Barton, of Hendersonville and Ruth B. Barton, of See-Off Mountain, Brevard. A great number of loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews survive to keep alive the memory of this fun-loving, joke-telling uncle.
Allen will be missed terribly by his friends and extended family.
Allen fought hard to survive the cancer discovered three years ago. Drs. Stone, Huntley, and Medina and their associates helped stall cancer's advancement until March when cancer invaded the lining of Allen's heart. The family is truly grateful to the staff of Pardee Hospital's Intensive care unit, the skilled hands of surgeon, Dr. Morrow, and the tender loving care given by everyone at the Elizabeth House.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, in the chapel of Moody-Connolly Funeral Home with the Revs. O.D. Rhodes and Harold McKinnish officiating. Burial will follow in the Little River Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Moody-Connolly Funeral Home, Brevard, is in charge of the arrangements.
