George T. Oxner (October 30, 1934 – March 7, 2002) was born in Newberry County, a son of the late W. Boyd and Irene Smith Oxner. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and he was a retired employee of Champion International. George was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church where he was a former Vice-Chairman of the Congregation and the Congregational Council. He was a member of the choir and an Honorary Life Member and treasurer of the Lutheran Men's Group. He was also a member of the Mid-Carolina Twirlers. George was an avid walker.
Mr. Oxner is survived by his wife, Jewel Fulmer Oxner of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jim Jordan of Summerville and Tracie and C.A. Shealy of Newberry; two grandchildren, Katherine Shealy and Jennifer Shealy of Newberry; and a brother Harvey W. Oxner of Newberry. A sister, Mary Boyd Oxner Cox and two brothers, John McHardy "Mac" Oxner and Rudolph Oxner, predeceased him.
Christian service to celebrate the life of George Thomas Oxner was on March 10, 2002, at Bethany Lutheran Church, with committal following in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
