He was the third son of Daniel Boone Slater, 1854-1924, and Nannie Elizabeth Bell Slater, 1863-1939, who migrated to Nolan County, Texas from Ray County, Missouri. He was the second of their seven children to be born in Texas. Birth order and names of those children are:

He was retired from service as a General Agent for N.Y. Central Railroad. At the time of his death from heart failure, he and his wife, Maude Evelyn, were residing in Irving, Dallas County, Texas.
