He was born George M. Slater, the first child of Missourians, Daniel Boone Slater, 1854 and Nannie Elizabeth Bell Slater, 1863 who were married in Ray County, Missouri about 1884. After George's birth, the young family began a migration which took them through Iowa and on to Texas, where they lived in several locations before finally settling in Nolan County, Texas.
