HENRY GILLIE

Henry David "Hank" Gillie, of Las Vegas, passed away May 18, 2009, at the age of 86. He was born in a coal mining camp in Mutual, Colo., Feb. 28, 1923, to Anthony and Louise Gillie.

Hank was a World War II Army veteran who served under George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. He was later wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart.

In May 1950, Hank married Lela Mae Pridy. He worked as a coal miner in Colorado until 1961, when he and his wife moved to Las Vegas, where Hank worked for Alfred M. Lewis Company for 23 years until retiring in 1985.

Hank was preceded in death by his father and mother; his wife, of 41 years, Lela; and his four sisters, Susie, Mabel, Ann and Mary.

He is survived by his son, David; grandchildren, Christina, Andrea and Chance; great-granddaughter, Kalea; and his loving longtime companion, Jo Ann. Hank was a great man who was loved very much by his family. He will be missed more than words can explain.

A funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta, Colo.

Burial at Delta Municipal Cemetery will follow the service. Boulder City Family Mortuary handled the arrangements.
