Donald R. "Honey" Smith, 83, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Desember 25, 2008, with his loving wife and children at his side. God clled him home and he is now in the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. Don was born on November 16, 1925 to Idus Leslie Smith and Gertrude Williams Smith in Dodson, TX. He attended school in Wellington, TX, and at an early age enlisted in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific. He then served 22 years in the US Air Force before retiring. Don was later employed by the City of Abilene as a water treatment operator for 20 years. He married his sweetheart, connie Walker, on December 29, 1945. They had two children, Kenny Don, of Panama City Beach, FL and Theresa Smith Lambert, of Abilene. Ken shares his life with wife, Sue, and Teresa shares her life with husband, Mike. during his beautiful life, Don devoted many hours to his loving family. He was a member of Wylie United Methodist Church and the Builders Sunday School Class at teh church. He was also a member of John Sayles Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. Don is survived by his wife, Connie; son, Kenny Don; daughter, Teresa; three grandchildren, Shane Smith of Boston, MA, Chris Lambert of Billings, MT and Malissa Lambert of San Angelo; nieces and nephews. Don was a devoted family man. His family will always remember his smile and loving arms. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith. 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Paster Jeff Hatcher officiating. Internment will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 pm Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made tot he Alzheimer's Association, 301 S Pioneer Drive, Suite 105, Abilene, TX 79605
