Dora Jean Bennett Bass, of Asheville, N.C., formerly of Taylors, died Nov. 6, 2000, in Asheville.
She was the wife of the late Guy Warner Bass and the eighth child of the late Preston and Mattie Bennett.
Her early education was received in Greenville County. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Claflin College, Orangeburg. Her Masters degree in Special education was obtained from Western Carolina University, Cullowhee, N.C.
Mrs. Bass retired from Asheville City Schools after 40 years of service. At an early age she joined Saint Matthew United Church, Taylors. After her marriage she later joined Rock Hill Baptist Church, Asheville, N.C., where she previously served on the usher board. She was also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and the North Carolina Retired Teachers Association.
She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter and son-in-law, Mrs. Denolis Gail and Robert Patrick of Taylors; a son, Mr. Guy Von Bass of Taylors; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Marilyn L. Bass of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, Denolis Kimberly Patrick, Danika Kelly Patrick, Keila Dionne Patrick, all of Taylors, and Khalil Gibran Bass of Charlotte, N.C.; a great-grandson, Jordon Terrell Patrick of Taylors; four sisters, Mrs. Henrietta B. Williams of Buffalo, N.Y., Ms. Jessie A. Bennett of Taylors, Mrs. Edna B. Thomas of Buffalo, N.Y., and Ms. Carrie E. Bennett of Taylors; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. Eustace E. and Georgia Bennett of Taylors; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marie S. Bennett of Simpsonville, Mrs. Connie (Kenneth) Rogers of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Dorothy (Sherman) Webster of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
