William Luther Hill passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at the age of 83, in the comfort of his home with his family and friends.
Bill was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Lavaca, Ark., where he grew up. In 1940, he went to Thompson Falls, Mont., and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for six months.
On May 13, 1941, Bill married the love of his life, Thelma Hankins, to whom he was married for 64 years. That month, they moved to Fillmore, where they lived ever since. Together they raised five children, Bobby, Billy, Donald, Larry and Lois.
Bill worked in the oil fields as a clerk hand from 1943 until 1966. In 1967, Bill started his own business, W.M. Hill Trucking. Bill truly enjoyed his trucking days. He participated in his business until he retired in 1993, but his heart remained in trucking.
Bill's other passion in life was fishing, which he enjoyed doing with his children, grandchildren and numerous friends. Bill had some very memorable fishing stories he loved to share.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Hill and Beatrice Hill; brother John Hill; and granddaughters Shelia Lee Hill and Carice Lynn Hill.
Bill is survived by his wife, Thelma; children, Bobby Hill (wife Sue) of Santa Paula, Billy Hill (wife Barbara) of Victorville, Donald Hill (wife Connie) of Clearlake, Calif., Larry Hill (wife Vikki) of Loch Lomond, Calif., and Lois Kozar (husband John) of Almar, Ark.; grandchildren, Lisa Hill, Chris Hill, Billy Hill, Stacy Lopez Michelle Hill, Denise Hill, Christine Hill, Teresa Womack, Luke Hill, Michael Kozar, Randy Kozar; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Lewis Hill (wife Jeanie) of Oro Grande, Calif., and Junior Hill (wife Helen) of Alma, Ark.; sisters, Maxine Travis of Fort Smith, Ark., and Marina Walker of Pawhuska, Okla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our special thanks go to Drs. Handly and Friedman and their staff at Community Memorial Hospital, the Fillmore paramedics, Fillmore Church of Christ and our many friends for all their prayers and support.
