Betty Hammond, 77, wife of Joseph Q. Hammond, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Savannah, after an long illness. Services were at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7 in Hammond Cemetery, Finklea's Cross Road, with the Rev. Tim Nugent officiating, and were arrainged by Meares Funeral Home in Mullins.

Mrs. Hammond was born Jan. 20, 1930 in Candler, N.C., a daughter of the late Louis Warren and Laura Creasman Warren. She lived in Beaufort for the past 35 years and was retired from civil service on Parris Island, having served at Recruit Administration Center.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joseph Q. Hammond of Beaufort; two daughters, Deborah (Heyward) Tindal of Early Branch, Melanie (Bobby) Dean of Springfield, Ga.; grandchildren, Adam and Amy Dean, Lori Rahn, Dianne Gooding, Heather Dean, Ramie Antee; great-grandchildren, Olivia Dean, Lindy Rahn, Dillon Rahn, Greg Sauls, Peggy Bowman, Charles Leggett, Fred Leggett, Edward Leggett, Harry Leggett; great-great grandchildren, Daphney and Christian Bowman; niece, Karen Farr and nephew Louis Warren.

She was predeceased by her brother, James Warren and two grandsons, Melvin and Ronnie Tindal.
