Mrs. Elizabeth Lee Brooks was born Oct. 7, 1869 in Mathews County, Va., and died October 6, 1927, in Elizabeth Buxton Hospital. She was the daughter of the late John E. and Rosanna Hudgins and was married to J. K. Brooks, Decemeber 22, 1887.

To this union four children were born to her, all of whom survive the mother. She had been in ill health for a long time. He death was a shock to all. On Saturday before her death she was taken seriously ill and on Wednesday morning she was rushed to the hospital, and on Thursday morning just as the sun rose from the eastern horizon, she bade farewell to her loved ones here to join those gone on before.

Everything that human agency could do was done for her but all of no avail. During the illness she was a great sufferer, but the suffering brought her close to the Saviour and she rejoiced in the conciousness of his presence of her pilgrimage here below. "Blessed are they thet Die in the Lord."

At an early age the departed was converted to Christ and became a member of Bethel Church, where she lived a consistant member until the time of her death. The dear Lord let her live 58 years and we can but say peace be with her. We invoke the blessings of God upon all who have strewn a flower in her pathway. Her parting is deep grief yet we grieve not as those that have no hope. Our loss is her eternal gain. "God doeth all things well." She leaves a husband, Mr. J. K. Brooks, three sons: Messrs Roger, William, and Edward Brooks, one daughter, Mrs. Ernest Shickley, and eight grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Sallie Stewart; one brother, Mr. L. R. Hudgins; a half-sister, Mrs. C. E. Diggs, all of this county, and a host of friends and neighbors to mourn their loss. A beautiful and comforting funeral service was conducted at Bethel M. E. Church on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Wilbur C. Diggs, assisted by Rev. H. J. Paylor. Her last remains gently laid to rest in a casket covered with beautiful flowers of which she was so fond, was laid to rest in Pear-tree Cemetery, to await the resurrection.

The pall bearers were, Messrs Boyd Hudgins, Carroll Stuart, Rodney Diggs, Rufus Diggs, Marvin Diggs, Clarence White.

Honorary pall bearers were: Richard Brooks, Taylor Owens, Carl Shackleford, Lem Hunt, George Enos Brooks.
~ By her loving husband and children.
