Prayers for Kenneth A . Cook Jr ., 80, will be said at 9:45 a .m. Saturday, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Mass will follow at 10:30 a .m., at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, 440 S. Mitchell, Arlington Heights. Born Feb. 11, 1923, in Detroit, Mich., he died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at home in his sleep. Kenneth was a union official for Teamsters Local #781 prior to his retirement. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Glenview Post, where he was a former post commander and service officer and was active in the Boys State Program. He was a board member for Arlington Heights Little League Baseball. Kenneth was active at Our Lady of the Wayside Church, St. Benedict Church and St. Viator High School. He worked hard in local politics with the Wheeling Township Democratic Party. He is survived by his wife, Eileen (nee Kilroy), whom he married on Oct. 9, 1949; children, Joseph Cook of Clearwater, Fla., Therese (Robert) Ortloff of Algonquin, Constance Riddle of Redding, Calif., Michael (Susan) Cook of Arcadia, Calif., Thomas Cook of Arlington Heights, Nikki (Rich) Pals of Palatine and Tami (Michael) Dunderdale of Lake Villa; grandchildren, Tanya Christofidis, Katharine, Mary, Elizabeth and Amy Ortloff, Kenneth Bradley, Daniel and Ryan Riddle, Kristen Cook and Thomas Cook ; and sister, Mary Pat (Robert) Marinier. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Robert Ortloff; and sister, Mary Virginia Gatens. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities, 126 N. Des Plaines, Chicago, IL 60606-6696.
