Johnny Dean Clark


Mr. Johnny Dean Clark, 63, of Hickory, N.C. formerly of Valdese, died Friday May 8, 2009, at his residence after a period of declining health.

Mr. Clark was born March 4, 1946, in Mitchell County to the late John and Odessa Grindstaff Clark.

He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Clark; a brother, Larry Clark; and a sister, Kay Page.

Surviving are his children, Deanna Martin and husband, Shannon, of Hickory, Tamara Powell and husband, Dave, of Clinton, Mich. and Andrew Traver, of Connelly Springs; three sisters, Patricia Gentry of Hildebran, Mary Lou Andrews, of Drexel, and Barbara Boyd and husband, James, of Bakersville; and grandchildren, David and Kristen Powell, Keylee Mitchem, Kennady and Karly Martin.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
