BURNHAM -- Irene E. Bickford, 85, died peacefully on April 5, 2009, at Inland Hospital in Waterville.

She was born in Burnham on Oct. 21, 1923, the daughter of Earl and Estella (Huff) Sidelinger.

Irene graduated from Clinton High School, married Paul Bickford Sr., and together they raised four sons. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Seven Star and Sebasticook Grange for many years.

She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a generous heart. She was a great cook and was always ready to feed anyone who walked through her door. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, gardening and reading. Irene took time and enjoyed nature. She had a knack for finding four-leaf clovers, but wouldn't pick a five-leaf because she thought it was bad luck.

She is survived by her four sons, Paul Bickford Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Clinton, Michael G. Bickford of Burnham, Cressell H. Bickford and his wife, Linda, of Pittsfield, and Shawn H. Bickford and his wife, Beth, of Pittsfield; her eight grandchildren, Libby Ann Higgins and her husband, Mel, of Albion, Shawn E. Bickford of Clinton, Logan M. Bickford and his partner, Kim, of Burnham, Hayley M. Bickford of Pittsfield, Avery D. Hamilton and his wife, Dee, of Lincoln, Vt., Hannah Bickford of Pittsfield, Hilary Bickford of Houlton, and Hattie Bickford of Pittsfield; her seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Parker, Elijah, Caleb, Chloe, Zachary and Cayden; her brother, Earl Sidelinger of Burnham; her sister, Faye Misiuk of Indiana; an extended granddaughter, Brooke (wild algerino) McGowan and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Bickford Sr., and three brothers, Charles, William and Adrian Sidelinger.

A graveside service will take place in the spring at Sidelinger Cemetery, Morgan Road in Burnham.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers, 93 Silver St., Waterville, ME 04901, in Irene's memory.
