Staff Sergeant, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, U.S. Army. Place of Enlistment: Indianapolis, IN.

Horace Verlin Meadows was one of 9 children born to John Wesley and Ethel (Randolph) Meadows. He was always known as Verlin or "Cryp" by his family.

Verlin enlisted into the Army January 14, 1944. He took his basic training at Camp Blanding, FL. Verlin went overseas August 10, 1944.

One week before he was killed, his brother, John, got permission to go over and visit him. John and his buddy were under enemy fire during the entire time they traveled to Verlin's unit.

Verlin worked for the Engineering Corp that was in the process of building a bridge. He and another man were carrying a 4x4, when an explosion killed Verlin.

Horace Verlin Meadows was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.

He was only 19 years old when he died.

He never married.

He will never be forgotten!
