Twisters smashed through 17 communities in seven counties in central and north Arkansas yesterday, destroying scores of homes, five churches and several stores. A cloudburst added to the havoc.
The victims were Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Baird, both about 55, instantly killed in the wreckage of their home at Minturn; Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dugger, 65, their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Goldie [sic] Dugger, 40, and Mrs. Lige Garrett, crushed to death in their homes near Heber Springs; and Mrs. J. Earl Lyons, 36, blown from her house into the path of a falling tree near Conway.
