Donald T. Hicks, 62, of Fredericksburg died Friday, June 9, 2006 at his home. He was a native of Fredericksburg and the son of the late Floyd and Mabel Hicks. He had retired as owner and operator of Hicks Diagnostic Center. He began working with his father at Exide Service Station and was well known in the community for his knowledge of electrical systems. A member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church, he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and was the church's representative when the Thurman Brisbane Homeless Shelter was founded. He served on the Board of Directors as treasurer of the homeless shelter. Mr. Hicks was a life member and past captain of the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad. He was an Eagle Scout. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Shannon Hicks; two sons, Lt. Col. Donald T. Hicks, Jr. of Seattle, Washington and Matthew A. Hicks and his wife, Johana of Christiansburg; one daughter, Kimberly E. Hicks of Raleigh, NC and a step-daughter, Michele S. Bomar and her husband, Mark, of Ladysmith; a sister, Lucille Skinner of Fredericksburg; granddaughter, Reagan Hicks and a grandson, Christian Bomar; nephew, Mark Geslock and several other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Florence Graves, Barbara Geslock and a brother, Floyd Hicks. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 13 at Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 12 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to White Oak Rescue Squad, 535 White Oak Road, Falmouth, Virginia 22405.
