STOTTS CITY - Hershel Onas Batson, 85, died at 11:10 a.m. Monday at st. Vincent's Hospital, Monett after a long illness.
Born Nov. 13, 1904, at Halltown, he had lived in the Stotts City area 65 years. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Assembly of God. He was an Army veteran.
He was married to Iola Waggoner in 1945 at Mount Vernon. She died Dec. 15, 1978.
Surviving are five sons Frank Batson, James Burch, C. R. Batson, Donald Lee Batson, J.O. Batson, five daughters Erma Jean Carpenter, Shirley Clayton, Esther Darby, and Hazel Lyon, a brother Olen Batson, 46 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Stotts City Baptist Church. The Rev. Basil Bowman will officiate. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery, west of Stotts City.
The family will receive friends at 7 to 8 p.m. today at Morris - Leiman - Mosher Funeral Home, Miller.
