Richard John Musselman, 83, Altoona, died Tuesday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of Frank and Marie (Ryan) Musselman. He married Dorothy Giansante. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Sheila Irwin and her husband, Dennis, of Altoona; a son, Shawn Musselman of Altoona; two sisters: Helen of Harrisburg and Sis of Altoona; four grandchildren: Shane, Nicholas, Megan and Kelley; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Paul, Joe, Mel, Ernie and Bob; and two sisters, Betty Perino and Bernedette Riley. Mr. Musselman was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He retired as a glazier from Alto Glass Co. He was a graduate of Altoona High School. He served as a private first class in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 16th Armored Infantry Battalion. Mr. Musselman loved to golf and was an avid fan of Notre Dame and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held in the afternoon. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum with military honors.
