Roland was a loving husband and father, cherishing all of his grandchildren and their children.

He served during WWII in the U.S. Navy. His electrical and plumbing career took him to Ipswich, South Dakota and Colorado Springs, Colorado. Following his 1984 retirement, he and his wonderful wife, Phyllis, moved to Tucson, Arizona.

Roland was a devoted Christian and member of Shepherd of the Hills Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tucson. *He was a most gracious and friendly face to newcomers at church - A natural at striking up conversation and making folks feel immediately at home in a crowd.

Missing him here on this side of Heaven are: His wife, Phyllis, daughters, Nancy Hildreth of Tucson, and Jane Dawson & spouse Reginald, deceased of Homer, Georgia, and sons, James spouse Darcia of Tucson, and John & spouse Barbara of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial service held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 8799 N. Northern Avenue, Tucson, Arizona, on Monday, April 27, 2009. In lieu of flowers, Rolly's wish was for memorials to be sent to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church *(8799 N. Northern Ave., Tucson, AZ 85704) to be used for Christian education, including seminary training for prospective pastors.
