Singer. She was the daughter of William and Lamatana, Patricia Sibley. As a girl, she attended the local convent in Forest Hill. Anne commenced her singing career at the age of 13. Having successfully auditioned for Bert Ambrose, she gained her solo recording contract in 1943. Her first broadcast was from the Mayfair Hotel. She remained with Ambrose for six years. She performed at military bases in Britain during World War II. Her radio program, Calling Malta, was broadcast from 1942 to 1947. In 1944, she was invited by Glenn Miller to sing in France with him and his orchestra. She declined because of prior commitments. Anne appeared with Bing Crosby on the Variety Bandbox radio program. In 1948 she recorded "If You Ever Fall in Love Again," written by Irish songwriter Dick Farrelly, best remembered for his song "Isle of Innisfree," which Anne also recorded. Her songs "Galway Bay" and "Be Mine" were popular in the United States in 1949, and she toured there in 1951, on September 21, 1956. Anne's most famous song, 'Lay Down Your Arms,' reached number one in the UK charts. Based on a Swedish melody, it stayed there for four weeks keeping stars such as Elvis off the top spot. During the 1950s and 1960s, Anne toured all over the Continent. Four or five times a year, she would go to Holland, one of her favorite countries, to broadcast programs. During a concert tour given to troops onboard a ship, she met entertainments officer Lieut.-Commander David Reid. After disembarking, David and Anne found themselves on the same train; they married in 1958. Anne's last performance was on 27th July 1994 for the Not Forgotten Association at Buckingham Palace. The other artists included Bobby Crush, Faith Brown, Ray Alan, and Frankie Vaughan. Anne's husband died in June 1990, when she was awarded the OBE for her valuable work to charities, especially the Not Forgotten Association. Anne died in Herstmonceux, Sussex, at 70 from a heart attack.
