Mrs. Myrtle Jerushia Hale Henry was born May 3, 1903, in Brotherton, Tennessee (Putnam County) and died on May 27. She had celebrated her 84th birthday only three weeks earlier. Myrtle was the daughter of Mr. Larkin Swafford Hale and Mrs. Zilphia Clementine Brewer Hale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses Grant Henry, two children, Ruby Lucille and Naldo Macklyn, three brothers, Walter, Lester and Virgil Hale and one sister, Mrs. Della Akins. Mrs. Henry was survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard Martin (Jo) of Ohio and Mrs. George Crockarell, Jr. (Madeline) of Dickson, two sons, Harry of Knoxville, Herbert of Watertown, Tennessee, a sister, Mrs. Dolly Hiltz of Chattanooga, also 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren. After raising her four children, Mrs. Henry worked in the school system for one year and one year at Oak Ridge in the Nuclear Plant. In 1950, Myrtle Henry completed Licensed Practical Nursing Training at Cumberland Medical Center and began her beloved work as a nurse. She worked in the hospital for 25 years, mostly in the maternity section. She loved every mother and new baby. Mrs. Henry was a leading figure in the Licensed Practical Nursing Association where she received several awards. She was very active in the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Mrs. Henry received awards from the Cancer Society and the Red Cross. She was selected and received the coveted Woman of the Year Award by the Business and Professional Women's Club. Mrs. Henry had been a member of the Methodist Church since an early age. She will be missed by fellow nurses, family, relatives, neighbors and friends. Services were conducted at 10 a.m., May 30, from the Chapel of Crossville Memorial Funeral Home with burial in the Parham Cemetery.
