Her paternal grandparents were James Valentine "Vol" Cockerel and Mary "Polly" Allen. Her maternal grandparents were Ezra Ward Kiper and Nancy Elizabeth "Nannie" (Bozarth) Wilkins.
Lela Mae Cockerell was the wife of Sherman Wright, the son of Larkin Wright and Ida Gaither. He was born on July 1, 1911.
Lela Mae Cockerel Wright died of cancer at the age of 39 years, 5 months and 6 days on July 18, 1871 in Grayson County. She was was buried in the Hopewell Church Cemetery in Caneyville where her father John Riley Cockerel, Sr. had preceded her after his death on June 19, 1968. Her husband Sherman Wright joined her there after his death on October 17, 1982.
