Gilbert Leon Hoover
Statesville, N.C. - Mr. Gilbert Leon Hoover, 77, of Old Mountain Road in Statesville, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Hoover was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Wade M. Hoover and Minnie Combs Hoover.

He attended Iredell County schools and on Jan. 25, 1957, was married to Shirley McGuinn Hoover, who survives of the home. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the cemetery committee and was the Sunday school secretary. He retired from Southern Screw after 35 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and the swing underneath his shed.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Hoover is survived by two sons, H. Leon Hoover of Hickory and Cody Hoover (Tina) of Newton; one grandson, Hoyle L. Hoover II; three granddaughters, Holly I. Hoover, Erica Hoover and Kiersten Hoover; one brother, Troy M. Hoover (Thelma) of Georgia; two sisters, Addie H. Moss of Statesville and Margie H. Goodin (Tommy) of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law, Helen Deal of Statesville and Pat Hoover of Georgia; one brother-in-law, Robert Campbell of Statesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hoover was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Voight Little Hoover, Archie Hoover, William Thomas Hoover, E. Timothy Hoover, Alice H. Campbell and Sudie H. Mayes.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, with Pastor Matthew L. Miller officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.
