James Norman Plummer, 89, Boalsburg, formerly of Hollidaysburg, passed away Tuesday at The Fairways at Bookline, State College. He was born in Portage, son of Harry R. and Frances Plummer. He married Evelyn Pryor in 1941 in Altoona. They had two children: Norma (Doug) Panasiti of Hollidaysburg and James (Martha) Plummer of Charlottesville, VA. In 1987, he married Edith Dickey of State College. Surviving are his wife, Edith; his son and daughter; a sister, Lois (Sheldon) Ott of Altoona; two stepdaughters: Beth (Francis) in Maryland and Ellen (Lorin) of State College; and two step-grandsons: David and Michael Reute, and their father, Ned. He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn; and a stepdaughter, Eileen Reute. Mr. Plummer was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving as a flight engineer on B-17s. He retired from Conrail as a blacksmith in 1980. Throughout his life, he enjoyed his family, friends, traveling, his gardens and shooting pool, but his passion was golf. He and Edith played, among countless others, the northernmost course in the United States, in Fairbanks, Alaska, and the southernmost course in the United States, on the big island in Hawaii. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Derman Funeral Home, 1200 Lincoln Ave., Tyrone. The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the funeral home, delivered by Eric Shafer, associate pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of State College. Interment will be private at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
