Services for Paul C. Lane of Marietta, Okla., will be at 10 a.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Marietta with Rev. Tommy Higle and Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services.


Mr. Lane was born Oct. 9, 1930, in Clarita, Okla., the son of John Franklin and Johnnie Mae Abernathy Lane. He passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in Presbyterian Hospital of Denton, Denton, Texas, at the age of 78.


A resident of Love County most of his life, Mr. Lane was a farmer and rancher and was credited in 1956 with producing the first bale of cotton in the county. In addition he was a rural postal carrier for many years. Mr. Lane also enjoyed cattle, gardening and working with the youth of the county, volunteering countless hours during the Love County Junior Livestock Show each year. For his dedication, he was recognized as an honorary member of the Marietta FFA Chapter. Mr. Lane also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Honors he received included the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Lane was a member of Marietta's First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years.


He and the former Kloma Joyce Pratt were married in Marietta on Feb. 10, 1955, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 26, 2001. Others preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Sydney Lane and Albert Lane; and a sister, Mildred McKiddy.


Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick Charles and Kenni Lane of Madill, Okla., and Kevin Paul and Heather Lane of Leonard, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Ronnie Colston of Marietta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Loveta Lane of Gainesville, Texas, and John and Kathy Lane of Oklahoma City, Okla.,; and five grandchildren, Tiffany Colston Nichols and husband, Zach, Cara Colston, Jedidiah Lane, Micah Lane and Charley Beth Lane.


Serving as bearers will be Denzil McGill, Rick Stowers, Jimmy Greenwood, Bub Peery, Randall Colston and Larry Hice. Honorary bearers are members of the Men's Sunday School Class-Adult II Dept.-Herman Roberson, Jesse Kirk, Jack Plunkett, George Hicks Jr., Lewis Foster, Ron Johnson, Wilton Allen and Bud Hill.
