Wayne Buckner, 69, of Brooklyn passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 at Foote Memorial Hospital in Jackson after a two-year battle with lung cancer. He was born Sept. 14, 1934 in Decatur, Tenn., the son of Don and Bessie (Nance) Buckner. He married Gloria McKnight on July 30, 1955 and she survives.
He was a member of the Brooklyn Masonic Lodge #169, the Scottish Rite Shriners in Detroit and the Irish Hills Rod and Gun Club. Wayne graduated from Adrian High School in 1954. He served our country in the Navy and worked for A&P-Farmer Jack in Belleville for 45 years until his retirement in 1997.
Besides his wife, Wayne is survived by one son, Kevin (Kay) Buckner of Liberty Township; one daughter, Leslie (Clint) Harwood of Whitmore Lake; his mother, Bessie (Nance-Buckner) Holt of Decatur, Tenn.; step-mother, Gertie Buckner of Fort Gratiot; granddaughters, Bonny and Emily Buckner of Liberty Township; sisters, Wanda (Pete) Sliger of Athens, Tenn., Phyllis (Nick) Karagus of Dearborn, Geneva Pettit of Cleveland, Tenn., Jeanette (Doyle) Meadows of Decatur, Tenn., and Linda Sue Campbell of Marysville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
A celebration of Wayne's life will take place on Wednesday, January 21, at 2 p.m. at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel with Pastor Michael Bracy officiating. Interment will follow at Roseland Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or to the Brooklyn Masonic Lodge. Envelopes will be available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends and family on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
