Mr. James Richard Beamon, Sr., age 100, of North Wilkesboro died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Britthaven Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00, Friday, April 3, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Gregory and the Rev. Jim Rhoades officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 Thursday night.
Mr. Beamon was born in Wilkes County, September 8, 1908, to William Bart and Rhoda Louise Brooks Beamon. He was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 68 years. Mr. Beamon served on the Board of Directors of the American Children Home in Lexington for several years and was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics. Mr. Beamon worked for Key City Furniture for 22 years. He was the first furniture upholsterer hired at Key City. After leaving Key City, he worked at his home as a custom upholsterer. Mr. Beamon was an avid newspaper reader and loved to work in his garden. He also loved his dogs (Lady Pat and Lolly Pup) and watch the Atlanta Braves on TV.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Beamon was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ruth Etta Anthony Beamon.
A devoted Christian father, Mr. Beamon is survived by two daughters, Dorthy Beamon and Kaye Hall both of North Wilkesboro; one son, James Richard Beamon, Jr. and wife, Caroline of Creston; three sisters, Edith B. Kilby, Grace B. Palmer both of North Wilkesboro, and Dare B. Jennings and husband, Arlie of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren, Bert Hall and wife Sandra, Marianne Beamon, and Christina B. Freeman and husband, Austin all of North Wilkesboro; two great grandchildren, Ashley Hall and Brooke Hall both of North Wilkesboro.
