Jackie "Jack" Elsworth Pence, 67, of Gilman, IL, died at 2:45 A. M., Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at his home in the arms of his wife with his children and their spouse's around him.

His funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Gilman United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Harkins and Rev. Steven Hartman officiating. Inurnment will be at the Wenger Cemetery, Gilman.
Military rites by the Gilman American Legion Post 499. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 13, 2009 at Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman. Also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to Gilman Fire Department, American Legion Post 499, Iroquois Memorial Hospice and the Iroquois West Building Fund (for a new bus shed).

Jack was born on July 15, 1941 in Gilman, IL to LeRoy Victor Pence & L. Pauline (Chase) Goldsby.
His childhood was spent in Gilman. He graduated from Gilman High School in 1959.

Jack married Alice L. Gunter on November 18, 1962. She survives. Also surviving are children - Jackie Dean &(Lynn) Pence of Bourbonnais, IL., Heather Rae &(Jim) Harvick of Panama City Beach, FL., Ginger Lynn &(Bob) Blackwood of Ashkum, IL., and Jay Elsworth &(Jessie) Pence of Hanna City, IL. Fourteen grandchildren - Jori Renee &(Ryan), Holly Lyn, Haley Nicole, Taylor Lee, Korey Elizabeth, Brook Anne, Mary Elizabeth, Aryn Taylor, Nickolas Edward, Lauren Ashley, Robert Chase, Isaac Jay, Corbin Jack, and Emalee Grace. One great grandson - Ryan Keith Jr. His mother - L. Pauline Goldsby of Gilman. His father-in-law - Ralph L. Gunter of Gilman. Two sisters - Marilyn J. &(James) Schroeder of Gilman, and Candice Lynn &(Bill) Howard of Kuttawa Kentucky.
Pre-decedents - his father Leroy, his step-father - Kenneth R. Goldsby, one sister - Diane Elaine Barnes and mother-in-law - Emily Jean Gunter.

Jack was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church. He was a Navy Veteran serving from 1960 to 1964 -WestPac Tours (Shellback). Other memberships included - Gilman American Legion Post 499, Alderman for the City of Gilman, Gilman Fire Department Fire Chief for 8 1/2 years, Chairman and Coordinator of the Gilman EMS, EMTI, Old Boys Committeeman and the Gilman Historical Society.

Jack was involved in Little League, Old Boys Beard Contest Winner and Chairman and Chain Gang for Gilman and Iroquois West Football games.

Jack had owned a Service Station in Gilman, was employed by P.E.M.C.O., Magnolia Wood Health Care Center in Watseka and was a Special Education and Iroquois West Bus Driver. He enjoyed sports and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Services for Jackie E. "Jack" Pence. 67, of Gilman, were held April 14 at the United Methodist Church in Gilman. The Revs. Jim Harkins and Steven Hartman officiated. Mr. Pence died April 8, 2009. Inurnment was in Wenger Cemetery, Gilman.

Pallbearers were Bob Eimen, Tim Hamilton, Clifford Miller, Todd Miller, Jim Schroeder and Bill "Willie" Short.

Honorary pallbearers were Burley Bargmann, Rick Clark, Paul Culkin, Mike Fetters, Bruce Gerhart, Clay Gerhart, Gary Johnson, Terry "T.P."Pence, William "Butch" VonDrehle, Jay Webb, Gerald "Jed" Whitlow and the Gilman Fire Department.
