— Services for Wanda L. Surridge, a long-time resident of Oologah, will be 2 p.m., Thursday, April 9, in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Wann Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from noon to 8 on Wednesday, with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Wanda passed away Friday, April 3 at the age of 80.
Born in Weimer on Nov. 18th, 1928, to Alfred and Elma (Long) Daniel, Wanda attended schools in Commerce and Chetopa, Kan. Her mother passed away when Wanda was just 15 years old and she helped to raise her younger brothers and sisters. A mutual friend introduced Wanda to her future husband, Harold "Bob" Surridge. On Aug 10, 1946 they were married in Trease, Kan. The family lived in many different places as a result of Bob's employment. In 1963 they moved to Oologah purchasing a beautiful 50 acre pecan grove that soon became home.
Wanda was an avid gardener and talented painter but nothing was more dear to her heart than her children and grandchildren. Truly a great human being, she was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Mark, of the home in Oologah, Marti Woody of Claremore, Lori Chapman and husband, Chip, of Tulsa, and Erin Ashworth and husband, Trey, also of Claremore; her grandchildren, Bryan Woody, Justin Surridge, Joshua Woody, Logan Woody, Danielle Ashworth and Taylor Ashworth; her brothers, Bud Daniel and wife, Marie, Sonny Daniel and wife, Pat, and Jack Daniel; and her sisters, Martha Howe, Claremore, Leona Dauber and husband, Carl, Marie Russell and husband Owen, and Maxine Easter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, who passed away in July of 2008, and a brother, Raymond Gary Daniel.
