A funeral for Clifford Daniel Sipp of McMinnville will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Chapel, McMinnville, with the Rev. Ron Smith officiating.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville.

The chapel of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, McMinnville, will be open for visitation until 7 p.m. today.

Mr. Sipp died Sept. 29, 2001, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. He was 87.

He was born April 1, 1914, in Mountaindale, the son of Abraham Lincoln and Ethel Irene May Sipp. He attended school in Mountaindale and later graduated from high school in Clarkia, Idaho.

He served in the Army Airborne 1st Special Service Force paratroops from 1942 to 1944. From December 1944 to July 1945, he served in the 82nd Airborne Regiment 504 Company C, attached to regimental headquarters.

He also served in the USA-Canadian Special Service Force, known as The Devil's Brigade.

He and Fern Kindred were married Sept. 6, 1946, in Newberg.

The couple settled in McMinnville. Mr. Sipp worked for Farnham Electric Co. for several years. He then went to work for McMinnville Water & Light and was a line supervisor for many years. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carla Efraimson of McMinnville; two sons, Gary Sipp of McMinnville and Jimmy Sipp of Salem; a sister, Dorothy Jackson of Fair Oaks, Calif.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Eye Bank in care of Macy & Son, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.

In July 2013, the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded, collectively, to the First Special Service Force (FSSF) in recognition of its superior service during World War II. On February 3, 2015 surviving FSSF Veterans were in Washington DC to accept this momentous recognition on behalf of their fellow Forcemen who could not be there.
