In 1900 she is living in Rogers, Michigan with parents and siblings. On 21 Feb 1902, Susan's parents divorced and Malvina was awarded custody of all the minor children.
In 1910 Susan is found in Lane Co., Oregon with her mother, Malvina and step-father William BOLTON and youngest brother, Ruby. Susan and Ruby are listed in the census as BOLTON and they are the only children living at home. There are several newspaper articles that Malvina, Susan and Ruby appear in that show they were active with family and friends. I don't know how or when Susan and Jack met but there is an interesting discrepancy about the actual year they were married. The certificate they received when they were married clearly has the year as 1916 but when I found the actual court record it has the year as 1917. The month and day are the same on both records, March 17th but the years are different. The court records gives Susan's age in years, months and days and using that age for Susan, their year of marriage would be 1917 (court record year). I tried to find a marriage announcement in the local paper but didn't see one but I did find a newspaper article dated Aug 24th 1916 in which Miss Susie Bennett attended a party at the Astrid Aid Club. So it would seem their year of marriage is in fact 1917.
In the1920 census Jack and Susan are listed in Quimby, Oregon with daughters Frances and Ernestine. In December 1928 the family moved to Eureka, California.2
In the 1930 census Jack and Susan are listed with all three girls.
In May of 1940 Jack and Susan have divorced and in the 1940 census Susan is living with youngest daughter, Barbara and a roomer. This is the same house the family had been living in. In 1946 Susan marries Frank Newton in Eureka, California.
In 1950 Frank and Susan are listed living at 2212 Albee Street in Eureka. Frank dies of a heart attack in 1956. Sometime later Susan moves to 104 W. Clark Street and lives there until she needed more care and moved in with Frances.
