Dolores (Dee) Ilene (Thompson) Leonard was born on a farm west of Soldier, IA on October 24, 1932, fifth in a family of eight, to Nel Gilbert and Violet Olina (Kline) Thompson.

She was baptized June 19 and confirmed June 20, 1948 into the Christian faith in the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, IA. She went to a country school between Onawa and Soldier, IA for her elementary and middle high school years. Dee graduated from Soldier High School in May 1951. She excelled in English, Spelling Bees and Math. She especially enjoyed spelling contests throughout her life. She moved to Sioux City in 1952 and worked at Sioux Soya Mills and then at Burroughs Adding Machine Company until February 1953.

Dee married George W. Leonard of Holstein, IA on March 15, 1953 at the Soldier Lutheran Church. They moved to his farm near Holstein where they raised four sons. Dee filled her life as a homemaker, wife and mother. She and George have always been active in their community and church.

They are members of the Holstein United Methodist Church. Dee was an active and faithful servant of the Lord. She served as President of United Methodist Women and on many of the Women's Circles and as a District U.M.W. officer. She served in various offices of the Administrative Council and for many years as a Sunday school teacher and Youth leader. She led adult Bible study groups in her church and community. She and George were longtime members of Merry Mixers. Dee loved music and was a member of her church 'Praise Band'.

She was active for many years as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed camping, boating, picnics, reading, corresponding with her family and friends, spending time with her family, her annual 'sister's' shopping sprees and their overnight weekends together. She and George have enjoyed their '500' card club with the same group of friends since 1953. They and their families had an annual 4th of July picnic and celebrated many special events in each other lives. She and George also enjoyed dancing and were enthusiastic square dancers. Her family gave her great joy and she enjoyed their time together and being active in their lives. Dee was a happy person and appreciated all the funny jokes and stories her kids and grandkids would relate to her.

She entered her heavenly home March 27, 2009. She had resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Holstein, IA since October 2004. She will be missed and remembered with love and laughter as her life's story is told from generation to generation.
