A Mass of Requiem for Mr. Cornelius Weyman Polk, age 79, will be celebrated 10:30am, Friday, March 27, 2009 at St. Pius V Catholic Church, where he was a communicant, with FR. Chukwudi C. Onwere, Celebrant, officiating. Mr. Polk, of 1437 W. 12th St., peacefully passed away March 20, 2009. He was a Tuskeegee, AL native, having resided in San Antonio, TX, before relocating to Jacksonville, FL in 1994. He was a Retiree of the United States Army , where he served his country for 22years until his Honorable Discharge. Also, Mr. Polk was employed as a Teacher by the Academy of Health Sciences until retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gilbertine "Tina" Flowers Polk; children, Mrs. Cynthia Polk-Allen (Thomas), Mrs. Kharen Anoa Monsho (Byron), and Cornelius Polk, Jr.; stepson, SFC Ervin Hagan (Brandy); 10 grandchildren; brothers, Rodolphus, Donald, and Edward Polk; sisters, Ms. Blanche Polk and Mrs. Thelma Collier (Joseph); 3 brothers-in-law; 3 sisters-in-law; a number of other relatives and friends. Mr. Polk will rest in the mortuary Thursday from 5pm until 8pm, where the family will receive friends at 5:30pm, and Friday at the church from 9am until the hour of service. The rosary will be recited Thursday at the mortuary at 5:30pm. Interment will be Monday in Jacksonville National Cemetery. Friends are asked to assemble at the church under the direction of Alphonso West Mortuary, Inc., 4409 Soutel Dr.
